Scientific heresy and creative enquiry

It’s amazing how hard it is to find anyone today speaking about the degree to which Science has now replaced Religion as the new orthodoxy. If anyone attempts to question this holy beast, there are immediately cohorts of reverent believers who will leap to its defense.

That is why we are so fortunate that the so-called ‘heretics’ of modern science like Ken Wilber, Rupert Sheldrake and Deepak Chopra are out there publicly exposing the acute limitations of its materialist foundation. This has a larger significance than is often perceived, far beyond merely legitimizing ESP or the mystical experience.

One of the exciting convictions that Rupert Sheldrake and Andrew Cohen agree on is that the Universe is not a static externality that is a ‘’thing out there” as scientific materialism would have it, but a moving, continually developing open-ended process, an integral part of which is our own growing capacity for interiority or consciousness. According to Deepak Chopra. “You are not a person. You are the entire Universe that is becoming self-aware through a human nervous system…”
These kinds of radical ideas born of an open enquiry between Science and Spirituality have big implications, which might be the first steps toward a new and far more inclusive and developmental way forward for us all.
